Centre for Leadership and Management
Established in 2010, the Centre for Leadership and Management (CLM) is one of the Institutes within the School of Arts and Social Sciences (SASS) in Tangaza University College (TUC); a constituent of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA).
Born of a partnership between TUC and DePaul University, Chicago – USA, CLM’s overriding objective is to offer courses aimed at creating Africa’s next generation of great leaders.
At its inception, the Centre was offering a Bachelor of Arts degree in leadership and management in five focus areas: Business Finance, Human Resource Management, International Relations, Public Relations, and Public Administration. Over the years, CLM has grown exponentially with the development of more programmes such as Diploma in Leadership and Resource Management, Diploma in Procurement, Diploma in Business Management, and Master of Arts in Ethics and Organizational Leadership. Thus far, CLM has graduated over 300 students with different credentials; some are self-sponsored while others are donor-supported.
The CLM Alumni Scholarship Fund
CLM has enjoyed life-changing partnerships in support of various scholarships among them the Australian Brennan Family tuition for vulnerable students desirous of a college degree in Leadership and Management. Others include the Hilton Foundation through their Higher Education Sisters Initiative which supports religious sisters taking the Diploma in Leadership and Resource Management; the Missio Internationales Katholisches (Missio Aachen) which has been providing tuition support for religious Sisters taking other CLM programmes since 2014, and Next Generation Leadership Program (NGLP) formally known as the Catholic Scholarship Program Kenya. On average, CLM gets 15 scholarships per year from the above partners. However, the actual need is at least 34 scholarships per year.
Due to the growing number of students and demand for the CLM programmes there is an urgent need to be pragmatic and supplement the available financial support we receive from the aforementioned donors. The ever-changing world realities, especially the economic impact of the evolving COVID 19 pandemic is the possibility of non-completion of studies for the everincreasing number of students who are faced with financial constraints and rely on generous benefactors to fulfill their education goals. It is in this context that The Leaders Guild (TLG), an alumni program that stems from CLM, has purposed to bring together past and current CLM students to co-create a sustainable alumni scholarship fund in the spirit of giving back to society through CLM (Centre for Leadership and Management Alumni Scholarship Fund – CeLeMAS).
Purpose of the Scholarship
The scholarship will provide tuition fees for 9 diploma and 6 undergraduate students who are vulnerable, highly motivated and seeking admission to CLM. The scholarship is competitive, nondiscriminatory, and awarded in cognizance of candidates’ financial background, needs, minimum academic merit, and transformational leadership goals. After careful selection of potential beneficiaries, the scholarships will be distributed as follows:
- Diploma in Business Management: 3 scholarships
- Diploma in Procurement and Supply Chain Management: 3 scholarships
- Diploma in Leadership and Resource Management: 3 scholarships
- Bachelor of Arts in Leadership and Management: 3 scholarships
